Merry Fucking Christmas
Greetings from SFO.

I am an idiot, and I missed my plane. Now I get to hang out in SFO until the next one leaves at 6am. With enough of this brutal conditioning, I may one day adapt to this insane future in which it is often necessary to arrive at the airport one or even two entire hours before take-off. But I'm sort of betting I'll continue to be an idiot for a while yet.

My brother is also an idiot.

In other news, as you might have noticed up there in the title, I have settled on "Merry Fucking Christmas" as my official December greeting. I don't want to adopt some lifeless, culturally ignorant PC substitution, but I don't want to accidentally fail to offend the Christ freaks, either.

I think your Christmas greeting is pretty fucking sweet. If people just relaxed, Christmas really could be a casually-vulgar and balls-out fun holiday. It would also be great to have a nationally-recognized holiday dedicated to fucking. I think so. And the day after would be "extended family day" when you give your young cousins and unattached siblings chocolate coins and plants to thank them for taking care of the kids yesterday.

heh.

I use merry whatever-the-fuck among my friends this year, and merry christmas among my relatives who'd otherwise be offended (some of 'em even think I still believe in God, isn't that sweet?)

You know, I've long dismissed the Religous Right's continual insistance that they're under attack as a bunch of pathetic mewling, and it is, but I'm starting to see where it comes from.

Don't feed fires you don't want burning.

But this is their tactic, and it pisses me off. They start a fight, we point out the ridiculousness of it, they claim we're escalalting the battle, and launch some campaign to defeat us. We dismiss their stupidity, and then they pass some horrific law going 200% over the top of the original issue.

We're destroying Christmas? You're destroying the Constitution, Democracy in America and everywhere else, and the ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD SO FUCK OFF about Christmas.

Not that I'm upset, or anything.

Right, so don't play into their hands. No christian I knew growing up felt threatened, but now a bunch of those same people do, because they've been sensitised to it. Hell, I'm sure my 20 year-old stock of Baptist jokes would set them off nowadays.

Also, it's best to remember that they don't give a shit about the constitution. Trying to fight on constitutional grounds is to concede the battle before it's begun. Since it looks like we're going to be fighting rear guard actions for a while, I think federalism is our strongest stance. Then once a bunch of these people die off we can have another Warren court to clean up the messes that have occured in the states that chose to elect the more theocratic Republicans.

well, I don't think they care much about me.

I think we need to slam the right with the constitution, it's time for another party-swap. The liberals are the new conservatives, led by the most conservative organization in the country, the ACLU. Conservative, btw, mean Constitution-protectionists.

I don't think we can wait for this to pass, honestly. Even if we put a Dem (or, if we're witness to a miracle, a Green) in 2008, we still have 10-30 years to recover from his judge nominations (and, re-nominations), debt/deficit, and social security being gutten and given over to Enron-like likelihoods. And don't forget the fact that the media is not only no longer liberal, but blatantly right-wing and nigh-monopolistic (ClearChannel, anyone?)

In any case, merry whatever-the-fuck.

you guys are monkeys! when you get together, you always miss flights.

i had to sit on a broken bus for four extra hours two days ago, and emma had to sit in an airport in denver for five hours, and now you're in an airport for six. the next person we know will get 7, no doubt.

Bill O'Reilly's "saving" Christmas from the usual perpetrators.

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/12/16/grinch/index.html

"All over the country, Christmas is taking flak," O'Reilly recently announced, as he complained about "the anti-Christmas jihad" that's gripping the nation. "If they could, secularists would cancel Christmas as a holiday. That's how much they fear the exposition of the philosophy of Jesus." During his syndicated radio show O'Reilly intoned darkly, "The small minority that is trying to impose its will on the majority is so vicious, so dishonest -- and has to be dealt with."

And a Merry Fucking Christmas to you, too!

Regardless of the stupidity that occurred in SFO today, be happy that you did not miss your plane, convince someone to drive you two hours to a different city and then miss your plane from there, not because you weren't on time but because small airlines have confusing names. Then wait four hours, get on a plane and sleep in a hostel in Chicago when you were on your way to Boston.

That's what I did.
